An Aid to Sculpting
Laser scanning enables us to clone your existing designs and produce "blanks" for final dressing. we can scan directly from clay models with no need to cast a resin!
Here is a description of one of the processes we use from scanning to printing and finishing:
The first step in the scanning process is to identify the level of detail required on the finished item. This will have an effect on the time the overall process will take. The higher the detail, the higher the polygon count on the scan. Generally, we can scan objects up to 4 metres in length with no real height restrictions. Full-size statues are also well within our capabilities.
When we are satisfied that we have as much data as we need, we'll piece all of the scans together and scale the final object to the exact size specified by the client.Once we know the level of detail we need to scan at, we start to take a series of scans around the object. On average, we take well over 30 individual scans to ensure that we cave captured the object from every visible angle.
The final scale will determine what happens next. If the object needs to be produced over the size that can be 3d printed, we will send the data for CNC Machining.
